We know a trip to the dentist can come with a few questions — about comfort, cost, and what your health fund or Medicare will cover. Does a root canal hurt?
This is the question we hear most, and the honest answer is that it hurts far less than most people expect. Root canal treatment is done under local anaesthetic, so the procedure itself feels much like having a filling. It is actually designed to relieve the pain of an infected or badly decayed tooth, not cause it. You may have some tenderness for a day or two afterwards, which usually settles with simple over-the-counter pain relief. You can read more on our root canal treatment page.
How much do dental implants cost?
Every mouth is different, so there is no single price for a dental implant. The final cost depends on things like how many teeth you are replacing, whether you need an extraction or bone grafting first, and the type of restoration placed on top. The best way to get an accurate figure is a consultation, where we can examine your teeth and provide a written quote.

Is Invisalign worth it?
For many people, yes. Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth without the metal wires of traditional braces. Because the aligners come out for eating and cleaning, they tend to suit adults and older teens who want a discreet option and are happy to wear them consistently — around 20 to 22 hours a day. Can I get an emergency appointment today?
We always do our best to see patients in genuine dental pain as soon as possible, often on the same day. If you have a knocked-out tooth, a bad toothache, swelling or a broken tooth, call us early on (07) 3279 8811 and we will find you the earliest available time. Does Medicare cover dental?
Medicare does not cover most general dental treatment for adults. There are two important things worth knowing:
- Eligible children up to 17 may receive a capped amount of dental care over two calendar years through the Child Dental Benefit Schedule (CDBS). We bulk bill eligible children under this scheme, so there is usually nothing to pay. Check whether your child qualifies on our Child Dental Benefit Schedule page.
- If you have private health insurance with extras (ancillary) cover, your fund may contribute to check-ups, fillings and other treatment. We offer HICAPS, so you can claim on the spot and only pay the difference.
How often should I see the dentist?
For most people, a check-up and clean every six months is the general guide. Regular visits let us catch small problems — like decay or gum issues — before they become painful or expensive to fix. If you are prone to certain conditions, we may suggest an interval that better suits you. Book your next general check-up whenever you are due.
Should I remove my wisdom teeth?
Not always. If your wisdom teeth have come through cleanly, are not causing pain, and you can keep them clean, they can often stay put. Removal is usually recommended when they are impacted, crowding other teeth, repeatedly getting infected, or simply too hard to reach with a toothbrush. The only way to know is to have them assessed, sometimes with an X-ray. Our wisdom tooth removal page has more information.
When should kids first see a dentist?
We recommend a child’s first visit by around their first birthday, or when their first tooth appears — whichever comes sooner. Early visits are gentle and mostly about getting your little one comfortable in the chair while we keep an eye on their development. Starting young builds good habits and takes the worry out of future appointments.
Are you accepting new patients?

Do you bulk bill?
We bulk bill eligible children through the Child Dental Benefit Schedule, which means no out-of-pocket cost for their covered treatment. For other patients we are a private practice, but we make paying easier with HICAPS on-the-spot health fund claiming and can talk you through your options. If cost is a concern, please raise it with us — we will always be upfront about fees before we start.
